This boat shaped wooden object was stored in the attics of the Guildhall for many years. Due to building alterations over the years it was trapped behind the clock room, there being no door wide enough to get it through. But why was this unused object there? If intended to be floated why store it in the attics of a building in the town centre away from the river? It's constructed of thin planks which would be easily smashed by a collision with a boat. A possible explanation is that it was to be kept a secret away from prying eyes. Perhaps it was for demonstration purposes at a Board of Enquiry held at the Guildhall. Is this a model of a Fulton Torpedo used in a briefing prior to the brig Dorothea being blown up off Walmer Castle on 15th October 1805?
